Happy New Year folks!
I went home to New Zealand to spend Christmas with family. These pictures are taken at my boyfriends family farm in Whitecliffs, Canterbury NZ.

We almost didn't make it home for xmas due to the earthquakes in Christchurch, but we made it safe and had a beautiful time away. I hold all my Chch peep's close to my heart.

These incredibly beautiful skulls are from artist Catherine Martin founder of Our Exquisite Corpse.
They are made from resin and hand beaded by using a needle to press the beads in one by one.
The art of beading skulls comes from the West Mexican tribe Huichol who Catherine discovered on a trip to Mexico. She designs the intricate patterns that are then brought to life by the best of the Huichol beaders.

"The name of her company Our Exquisite Corpse comes from the Dadaists and describes a game they used to play where somebody draws a picture on the top of a piece of paper and then they fold it and pass it over to the next person and they draw the body and they pass it over to the next person and they draw the legs – the idea is to collaborate with artists, chop things up and change them." *

This is starting to become a Mexican summer!
Halloween was spent in true Day of the Dead style and I have been eating Mexican food like crazy the last couple of weeks. It started with a feed at Mexicali Rose before the amazing Fly My Pretties gig the other weekend, then the ladies came home the other week and cooked a great feast that we ate in the last of the Sunday sun in our back yard....then we followed the Taco Truck to the park for a Friday dinner and next I discovered Gringo Vibes down the road from my house...and they played my favourite Sizzla record on request!
Our lemon tree in the back yard is cranking and calls for a Tequila night....Roll on the Mexican summer!

I mentioned awhile back about a Wild Flower film I am working on.
2 days before our scheduled shoot we got booted off our awesome location for safety reasons blah blah annoying! So we had to find a new location (which we have) and now we are re-writing the new treatment for the short film.
Currently I'm making some more pieces to shoot to add to the existing collection.
I'm just trying to wrap my brains around my new direction!

Here's a bunch of shots from the last month or so.

Last weekend I had my 30th birthday. I wanted to celebrate by getting out of the city and amongst nature so I put on a hillbilly hoe down out in Otway National Park and partied in a massive tee pee. We watched the sun rise in the morning from the roof at which point someone discovered a big sign with my name on it. Don't know where that materialised from!? Great times, I had a bloody amazing night. Hello 30!

Otherwise;

.....been trying out wigs and prairie dresses from my work for a bit of entertainment, ( for my bday outfit I ended up settling for some wool dungaree's I made and then of course a costume change into a big ol purple frilly frock...Pic 2)

Cut onions

I have just cooked dinner and whenever I cut onions my eyes cry like a big baby! This is post onion eyes.

I don't get to see my mum much, we live in different countries and have for awhile now. She is a councillor and was given this necklace by someone as a symbol. They told mum the piece in the center was them and the layers represent the layers we wrap around ourselves as protection, like the ego and different sides of ourselves (like onion layers). I liked that story and the symbol; so mum gave it to me to wear for awhile.

My diamond ring is my Grandmother Grace's, on my late fathers side and was worn by my mother when she and dad were married.
There are 13 gold and silver rings on the next finger, one is pointed.
The Zuni ring was bought in the Nevada desert on my way out to the Grand Canyon last year.

There are many projects I am working on right now (as usual!) and so tomorrow I am planning a big day of getting stuck in. I hope I can be productive and at full flex!

On the front porch in my DI$COUNT tshirt. Was great to finally meet Nadia & Cami the lovely designers who are getting ready to launch! Very exciting. I will treasure this T-Shirt.

Today I made this necklace out of my broken Moshino belt...now it reads something along the lines of MOON.SICH. Whatever that means.

Gotta mention the gorgeous seller DejaVintaj on etsy who I got these boots from. She also sent me the glass pendant that I added to my necklace, as an extra wee gift. She makes these out of old lamps/broken prisms. Thank you Marianne! (check out her shoes! I'm stoked with these boots!)

Last Friday night I checked out the DI$COUNT exhibition at Blackwoods gallery here in Melbourne.
In awe of their frikkin unbelievable work!!!!.....

The idea was that a group of artists in Japan, London and Melbourne (DI$COUNT girls) sent a bunch of stuff to each other and each group had to create something out of the parcel of stuff. (boy o boy that was a fabulous sentence.)
Then the works have all been exhibited in each of the 3 countries. (I know they had the exhib in Japan, not sure if London has had theirs yet?)
You can see by the pictures on the wall next to each outfit what the original materials were.

This is strange but I remember watching this moment on the 6 o'clock news when I was a kid!....Naomi taking a tumble in a Westwood catwalk show 1993-5.

This video is quite something. Vivienne Westwood is being interview on BBC1 in 1988 by Sue Lawley, with guests Russell Harty and Janet Street-Porter.
That Russell guy is a total dickhead; I don't understand why the audience is laughing and I am so glad that Janet Street-Porter (who looks great!) says what she says at the end about Viv.
Dame Westwood conducts herself with such grace, I would have been extremely angry!
I absolutely adore the collection of outfits she is showing here.

I don't know why I find this interesting...probably because i remember going to the mall as a kid. Also for the fact that the 90s don't feel all that long ago but they are called 'vintage' or whatever now.
Am I starting to feel old!? I'll just say 'hahaha!....yup.'

I love the start of a decade...they are still dragging the 80s with them but with a whole 'fresh' new spin! Would ya look at them go!

This looks kind of stupid I rekon, but as I biked past these chopped trees today in the park I couldn't help but take some pictures. Starting with one of my favourite yogo poses...the pose of the Tree = balance = what I am always trying to achieve = still looking stoopid trying to achieve it!

Featuring my horse shoe bolo tie (I think cowboys look cool) and a vest I made from beautiful silk I bought when I was in Dubai...that also has a pair of matching wide leg pants for a full Bianca Jagger look that I was trying to capture one day....obviously not wearing here.....but it is quite a sight when its a suit, I can tell you that.

Outfit today was inspired by Sara Moon and the make-up at Marc Jacobs Spring 2011.

This velvet 70s culotte jumpsuit has been with me for years! I first purchased it from who knows where when i was still living in Christchurch. I went through a period of wearing it like crazy a few years ago and I just rediscovered it in all its glory again.
It has to be put with these beautiful knee high boots (check out the back view of these babies) gifted to me by my business partner Christiana who is the main supplier of the House Of Licks.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write this message to say that at this time I don't feel that it is right for me to be posting as usual. My home town of Christchurch, New Zealand has been hit with a disastrous earthquake that has ended in much devastation. I am lucky that my family and friends are OK but there have been many lives lost and a huge amount of damage.

It has left me in massive shock, upset and heartbroken.

They are still battling from big aftershocks since the recent quake and it has been quite a stressful time for the people of Christchurch since the large quake back in September. Words like aftershock, liquefaction, epicenter and fault lines, have all been apart of everyday life.

A very strange feeling to have the place you are bought up in all crumble to the ground, and my heart goes out to the people that have had to experience this traumatic time.

I wish for healing, love, kindness and safety for all out there.

Wild Flower Tie Dress & Wool shorts

For this dress, I cut up a Tie and patch worked it together to create the bodice bib coz I really liked the colours and stripes. The rest is heavy silk, has side pockets and draw strings, worn open to reveal wool shorts with a tartan waistband and button fly....a follow on design from the pants version I make out of merino wool.

The suede jacket is one of my favourites of all time. It fits like a dream and was the first of its kind to seduce me.
The beaded waistcoat is up for sale. I am really wishing it was mine actually so you'll be lucky...!
The shorts I started making the other day and are by no means finished so you got a brotch fastening there instead of a button! Couldn't resist wearing the panther brooch that my girl Fran sent me. Very lux!

I can't stop loving tassels! I just LOVE them. Too much. I have a bit of a collection of tasseled pieces forming in the wardrobe. Hopefully I will get round to posting some pictures of said items.

New logo ay! How about it.
I am back in action. Been away for a month. Had an amazing time in the USA.
I bought this jacket & jodhpurs at Hootie Couture in Brooklyn for an exceptional bargain.

I was trying to be serious and take photos but who am I kidding, I'm not a beanpole model chick, I'm me! So much easier to just take the blimmin picture looking like an orangutan rather than model pose & prune pout.

Wild Flower silk dress

It is so great to finally be on the road after weeks of very hard work. Right now I am writing from San Francisco!!!!! I am totally in love with this place.....but more of 'hello AMERICA' later....

These pictures are from my dear friends Nick & Rachel's beautiful wedding in Byron Bay Australia. We started our roady here for the weekend catching up with old friends, meeting new ones and most importantly celebrating our friends gettin hitched!
It was a gorgeous wedding, and we spent the weekend by the lake, diving off the diving board and having late night saunas. Good times!

On the Monday Denver and I flew out to L.A. Let the good times roll!!!

I am wearing a silk dress I made with a leather thong tie , black wool felt wide brim hat, denim shorts, vintage necklaces & some muddy black boots.
I also made the grooms waistcoat and my boyfriends waistcoat also, it was cool to see all my hard work in action. I am thinking of doing a men's range of waistcoats....

I feel so lucky right now. We happened upon a festival here in San Francisco called Hardly Strictly Bluegrass....yesterday we saw T Bone Burnett and Karen Elson, tomorrow we are gonna see Patti Smith and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings!
Perfect way to spend my birthday.

I am interested in this film because for 1. it uses the recent fall collection from my favourites, Proenza Schouler and 2. coz it is gritty...no whimsical boho babe frolicking in fields or some shit. I realise this won't be every ones cup of tea, but hey...this ain't every ones blog now is it!.

When I was a young-un, I used to want to be an interior designer. Some where along the way that desire turned into fashion design but interiors still really excite me.

Some people want flashy flash flash...me?...I want fantasy! The tree houses in the Ewok movies totally made their mark on me and since then I can't wipe the idea of living in the trees. I like open spaces too. Whenever I dream I always feel more at ease if there is lots of space around me. Ideally I would like to hear the ocean too. Oh and have a walk in wardrobe.....is all this possible??? In my head it is.

I guess the closest house in reality is the one in the last picture. Its of the house used in the James Bond film Diamonds are Forever. It was built in 1971 & they filmed it not long after it was built. I LOVE how you can dive from the edge of the living room into the pool as seen in this totally hilarious fight scene between Bond and two foxy ladies........

I have been going to see a few films at the Melbourne International Film Festival. So far each one has been amazing. I think its really important that I go and see as much as I can during the festival because the films become a big part of my education, thought process & fuel for inspiration!

I remember seeing Julian Shnabel's film Basquiat a few years ago.....and I had to leap at the opportunity to see The Radiant Child. Its the first feature length doco about the artist, made by Tamra Davis. It was based around some footage she took during an interview with Basquiat not long before he died. The footage was then shoved in a drawer only to be pulled out now.

Some thoughts on the film I'm just gonna spit out for future reference:

- It is so impressive how much work he produced and just how dedicated a painter he was. A lot of his friends said they wondered when he acutally worked coz he was always out partying. When he passed away he left 1000 drawings & 1000 paintings.

-Someone said (Think it may have been his agent) "I never knew an artist to physically abuse his paintings as Jean Michel did, I think you can date his paintings by looking at the shoe prints all over them!!"..........a lot of his paintings are huge and were painted on the ground, he often worked on them simultaneously, walkin all over them.

-Such a fast rise to fame! From broke ass on the street to selling paintings for big bucks within a couple of years.

- Samo, ahem, Mr Samo hehe and his poetic musings on the walls.

- I did feel a bit sad and wistful after this film; in a good way.

What a beautiful surprise it was today to receive these photographs in my inbox from Elisha!

We took these back in the summer, see that dry Aussie grass! It must have been in November.

I remember it being soooo hot that day & I think the next day I was off to the Pearl Jam concert...don't ask me how I remember that!?

This blue dress I designed & made to wear to a Christmas party, yeh hmm wasn't the best of nights but I showed the dress some love by giving it this photo shoot.

I call it the weird name of the Clockers dress 'cos I designed it while watching Spike Lee's film Clockers....straight up! makes sense, not gonna pretend. I am always very inspired visually by Spike Lee films.

I ended up giving the dress to my sister Emily. While I'm at it, big shout out to my Sis....... x There is no me without you x....... She looked amazing the night she wore this dress, she has the va va voom figure every women wants to have!

Can't wait to work with Elisha again on some future projects lined up!

A little sneak preview of some 'behind the scenes' shots of my photo shoot to launch my first Wild Flower product!

Its very exciting and a dream come true for me. I have been working on this project for a long time now and its slowly starting to take shape!

Amongst the people I know I look around and see so much talent and so much potential. I can't even count the amount of times I have talked with the people around me about following our dreams and creating something with and for ourselves. oh no I think I am actually gonna say......together we can make it happen! hahaha! Yeh nah its true, I have always felt restricted by the thought that I had to follow a certain path to do what I want to do but now I am making my own way.

Went to the Tim Burton exhibition the other day.

His cartoons are amazing, extraordinary, out of this world & hilarious!

The part of the exhibition I liked the most were the cartoon illustrations he did during his years of study, & when he did his intern-ship at Disney. The cupid one I have posted above was included in that section. It was like he finished high school....went to study.... and cut loose with his drawing & ideas!

I spent almost 3 hours in there and think I may even have to go back, there was so much to see and absorb.

The exhibition took you through his whole life starting with images he drew as a child right up to costumes from his latest film Alice In Wonderland.

I watched the Nightmare Before Christmas last night. I love his style and at the end I don't want to leave the world he has created! All day I have been singing in my head 'What's this! What's this!?....dadadadadaaaa!.........'

Doing a bit of a 'what I wore today' & pulling a Jak&Jil on yer ass.

Just a few side notes on some of the pieces I'm wearing today;

I pretty much dress myself almost entirely from the Salvo's....reasons being...I don't have the money to buy expensive clothing and I hate shopping in regular clothing stores coz its frikkin boring, overpriced & most of the time I can't be arsed with the style of service. I like rummaging around the salvo's and trying to suss out if things are good ugly or just plain uuggg-ly! Man, you can get some bargains....pure wool sweater slash cardi jacket type thing....uhhh $7. Sweeeet.

I think Perri Cutten is an old school Aussie label. This blazer, although you can't see it in it's full technicolour glory here, is made out of fabric that totally resembles a tie. A textured and very richly coloured slightly shiny fabric. It reminded me of something from a men's Gucci collection, or dare I say Balmains winter 2010. A lux 70s vibe.

These pants......!!!! Love them!!

They are literally horse riding jodhpurs I wore all last winter and have pulled them out again. They are the most comfy warm numbers for my legs 11. I have noticed around the blogworld that American Apparel have put out a riding pant style just like these...well can't be as good as these o-rig-i-nals here....but yeh might try track some down coz these are just too good and I wear them most days.

My shoes.... probably one of my most favourites.

I'm feeling so good about things...trying to make the most out of every moment in the day and I'm so inspired.

Some days I can be a bit of a procrastinator but when I have done all that I had to achieve in the day, man you can't stop me!

My sister used to say 'give the task to the busy man coz he's the one that will get it done.' I think that is so true.

When I finally hit the hay I just realised that I haven't really been remembering my dreams?.... (I'm usually an intense dreamer).... maybe this is because I feel like I'm on to it and don't need to process in such an intense way...when I go to sleep its just for rest and not like I'm about to go hiking in the hills of dream madness! Although I kind of miss that!

Am I the only one in the world that didn't know that Miu Miu's Spring prints are influenced by Biba? Is that widely known?

(look up and check out the second to last pic and then look at the clogs)

Anyways I came across this picture in a Biba book at the Library today and instantly recognized the cat print and the wide collars. I really love this look and I'm not surprised that everyone is obsessed with Miu Miu and the prints.

I remember when I first saw the Spring 2010 collection it took me awhile to adjust to what I was seeing & I was kinda puzzled.... but then I realized, wow, no one has worn that shit for years...bout time, it's supremely beautiful; so chic! I love it. Miuicca is amazing for that.
